I always find it interesting to see different interpretations of demons and devils-especially the Big D (Lucifer, The Devil, Old Scratch, Mephistopheles, Beelzebub, etc.). In our modern culture, the notion of demons and devils does not seem half as scary as it did in earlier times. Despite this cultural shift, these fiery little monsters still have the potential to terrify (e.g. The Exorcist-I still can’t watch this by myself).
So for this week’s installment of Halloween-related bloggery, we have scoured the darkest reaches of the special collections for our favorite depictions of that sulfur-smelling, pitch-fork wielding, lord of the underworld. Behold:
