Say hello to Ben Jones, our new student assistant in the library’s Reference and Instruction department. You’ll likely see Ben helping out at our reference desk and around the library helping patrons. He arrives to UTC this semester as a sophomore transfer student from Middle Tennessee State University majoring in Environmental Science. We’re glad to have him aboard and, as is customary, gave him the 10-question treatment. We get the impression that he enjoys rock climbing.
You’re a transfer student this semester. Why did you choose to come to UTC?
I chose UTC for a number of reasons that I probably can’t count. The first being a change in major that was poorly offered at my last institution. A second reason for my transfer is that, I found UTC to be a more personal, helpful school and the town in and of itself is just amazing and beautiful. Plenty of rock climbing, hiking, camping, and kayaking.
Coffee, tea, or soda?
Hot tea. Absolutely.
What song title describes your life right now?
“New Shoes” by Paolo Nutini.
Any hair care tips for men (or women) with long locks?
Shampoo’s overrated.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs.
If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be and why?
If I could go anywhere, I would go to Australia. A vacation there would be a dream come true because I’ve been wanting to study abroad there as well as hang glide and rock climb!
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors in Chattanooga?
Rock climb.
What was your favorite cartoon as a child?
Dexter’s Laboratory.
Name one thing you think all UTC students should know about Lupton Library?
Information about the new library such as how it is a LEED certified building. That stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Designs. UTC has spearheaded the ACUPCC (American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment) in this region and is ever-improving in its sustainable practices. The new library will be revolutionary in how it operates and how it’s insulated and structured.
