At several times in University of Chattanooga History, when the school yearbook was called The Moccasin (& its logo was… a shoe), a beauty contest of sorts played out in the yearbook pages. A handful of the university’s lovely ladies vied for the coveted position of “The Moccasin Beauty”. A judge was solicited from the ranks of the rich and famous of the day and asked to cast his vote for the loveliest lady. In 1964, the swoon-worthy Paul Newman, famous for his many Hollywood films, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) and, later, Cool Hand Luke (1967), was tapped as Beauty Judge and graciously accepted the intimidating task. Included below are images of the beauties (winner Miss Huguelet, far-right, seated) and the letter sent from Mr. Newman.
