Everyone loves a good poltergeist tale. Several beastly books reside in the Special Collections; a few of which actually tell local stories of spectral beings and sinister shades. We have a book entitled Ghosts of the Southern Tennessee Valley that tells of close encounters with the creepy kind in and around the Tennessee Valley. Come have a look if you want to give your regular haunts a new bone-chilling dimension.
Also in the crypt is a rare copy of the book The Bell Witch of Middle Tennessee (owned by only 5 other libraries worldwide!). The Bell Witch story is non-fiction and follows events surrounding the haunting of a family by a ghostly witch in Adams, Tennessee. The tale inspired the movies, An American Haunting (2006) and The Bell Witch Haunting (2004). It is also believed that this story may have inspired the popular film Blair Witch Project.
Pictured above is the Bell Witch Cave, a tourist destination, located on the Bell Family farm. Click on the Bell Witch Cave link above for a synopsis of the legend that will make your hair stand on end!
Happy Halloween!!
