Dr. Amir Alakaam (Health & Human Performance) in collaboration with Green|Spaces has received $10,000 from the Kendeda Fund for the project entitled, “Addressing Social Determinants of Health in Chattanooga: Scaling Regenerative Design.”
Angela Dittmar (Arts-Based Collaborative) has received $3,000 from the Montessori Elementary at Highland Park for the project entitled, “Arts Integration at Montessori Elementary at Highland Park.”
Angela Dittmar and Laurie Allen (Arts-Based Collaborative) have received $2,000 from Winthrop University for the project entitled, “SC Arts in Education Forum Presentation.”
Dr. Lucien Ellington and Jeffrey Melnik (School of Education) have received $81,248 from the Association for Asian Studies, Inc for the project entitled, “Education About Asia Journal Project 2022.”
Drs. Eric Hungenberg, Dongoh Joo, and Drew Bailey (Health & Human Performance) have received $27,936 from the Chattanooga Zoo for the project entitled, “Chattanooga Zoo Impact Analysis.”
Dr. Catherine Kendall (Interior Design) has received $16,360 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “NCIDQ Student Scholarships, Freshmen Supply Packets, and Graphic Art Workshop.”
Dr. Daniel Loveless (Electrical Engineering) has received $45,935 from a federal agency for research examining radiation effects on microelectronics.
Dr. Christina Policastro (Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies) has received $44,524 from the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for the project entitled, “2022 Tommy Burks Victims Assistance Academy.”
Dr. Hong Qin (Computer Science and Engineering) has received $46,422 from the National Science Foundation for a supplement to the project entitled, “iCompBio – Engaging Undergraduates in Interdisciplinary Computing for Biological Research.”
Drs. Hong Qin and Yingfeng Wang (Computer Science and Engineering) have received $401,980 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Interdisciplinary Computational Biology version 2 – iCompBio2.”
Dr. Luay Wahsheh (Computer Science and Engineering) has received $20,000 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “BS Computer Engineering Program at UTC – A High-Quality Experiential Learning Environment.”

Drs. Mina Sartipi and Osama Osman (CUIP) have requested $199,999 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “An AI-based, Real-time, Low-cost, and Self-configurable Intelligent Traffic Monitoring System.”
Dr. Anthony Skjellum (SIMCenter) has requested $16,000 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Intelligent Communication Fabrics to Facilitate Extreme Scale Computing.”
Dr. Benjamin Stein (Chemistry and Physics) has requested $322,375 from the National Institutes of Health for the project entitled, “Characterization of non-canonical regulatory pathways in the Caulobacter NtrYX signaling system.”
Drs. Serkan Varol (Engineering Management Technology), Dawn Ford, and Marissa McElrone (Health & Human Performance) have requested $306,989 from the National Institutes of Health for the project entitled, “Exploring black adults’ willingness to vaccinate themselves and their children in the southeastern U.S.; a mixed method approach.”
