CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (UTC/The Loop)

The UTC Fencing Club is getting more and more popular, and with good reason.

The Fencing Club, which is French Sword fighting is fought with the best of 3 bouts. The bout is over when one fencer has scored 5 points, or hit with enough force to break skin.

The University of Tennessee Chattanooga’s team has started its tournament run this semester, with two tournaments in the Atlanta area the past two months.

Club President and UTC Fencer Matthew Curvin is very dedicated to this sport.

FENCING CLUB STORY

After breaking the marrow in his leg, he still competed in the tournament with winning 4 matches and before loosing his 5th match 14-15.

“It was pretty stupid,” said Curvin about his decision. Curvin also added that he would not have been able to compete with out a good cast.

The Fencing Club meets at 7pm in the bottom floor of the ARC for drills, and 8pm-10pm for practice bouts on the second floor.
