Parents

If a parent wants his or her child to continue as a student at UTC but decide it’s in his or her child’s best interests to take classes online (at home a significant distance away), is that an option? And if so, fees would not include housing, meal plan and library/athletic fees, is that correct?

If a student chooses to remain at home and take classes online, housing and meal plan costs will not apply as long as the student cancels any housing contract by July 31. However, all other mandatory fees (for instance, student activity fees) still will be in effect. Cancellation deadline has been extended to August 7th.

Are tuition rates reduced if a class is online?

No, not unless circumstances force the class to go to an online format only. If conditions were to force that situation, the Online Access Fee would not be assessed.  

Are campus housing contracts for the entire academic year or is there an option for semester contracts?

Campus housing contracts are for the entire academic year.

What is the new $180 option that was sent out with the fee billing this (July 13-17) week?

The $180 option is for tuition insurance. A campus shutdown is not covered by tuition insurance. However, if a student contracts COVID-19 and must be excused from the University for medical reasons, that is covered by tuition insurance.  

If a student decides not to live on campus because he or she has all on-line classes, what is the process to have the housing charge refunded?

If a student chooses not to live on campus because all of his or her classes are online, he or she will have to cancel the residence hall contract by July 31.
