In addition to their outstanding teaching efforts, the CECS faculty are committed to excellence in both scholarship and service to their community and their disciplines. In recent weeks, three of the College’s faculty were recognized for their efforts in those key areas. Drs. Ronald Cox, Neslihan Alp, and Hon Qin each received awards based on their distinguished scholarship and service.
Dr. Ron Cox, Burkett Miller Chairholder in the Department of Engineering Management and Technology, was named 2016 recipient of the Bernard R. Sarchet Award by the American Society of Engineering Management (ASEM). The Sarchet Award is the Society’s highest honor which recognizes contributions to the organization and to the field of engineering management on local, regional, national and international levels.
In recognition of her contributions to our region’s manufacturing community, and in support of her work to develop academic offerings for area students pursuing degrees in engineering management, technology, and construction management, Dr. Neslihan Alp was named Chattanooga Manufacturers Association Chairholder. Dr. Alp serves as Associate Dean of the College, the CECS Graduate Studies Coordinator, and Head of the Department of Engineering Management and Technology.
Dr. Hong Qin joined the UTC faculty this fall in a joint position in the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Biology. Dr. Qin comes to the College with a distinguished record of research in a number of key areas including medical and pharmacology data. In recognition of his record of outstanding scholarship and success in funded research, Dr. Qin was recently named recipient of a National Science Foundation Career Award. Dr. Qin’s held a faculty appointment at Spelman College prior to accepting his post with CECS, and is applying his scholarship to work with colleagues in several disciplines via the programs of the SimCenter of Computational Science.
