Dr. Wolday Abrha, Engineering Management and Technology, began his journey with CECS in Fall 2017. He has called Tennessee home for over a decade and a half, and lives with his wife, Netsi, daughter, Ephy, and son, Matt. A new family member, Moses, joined the family in May. Dr. Abrha’s favorite thing to do when he’s not working is spend time with his family. Dr. Abrha is described as an efficient and genuinely humble colleague who works hard and is respectful of people around him. A proponent of economic empowerment and poverty alleviation, Dr. Wolday is truly invested in making the world a better place for the next generation.

What are a couple of the changes you’ve seen over the years at CECS?
WA: There are many changes: new programs, new labs, diverse groups of faculty and staff, and much more.
What languages do you speak?
WA: English, Tigrinya, and Amharic. I also know a little bit of conversational Arabic.
What did you want to be when you were small?
WA: Academician.
What was your first paying job?
WA: Internship at a pharmaceutical factory.
What is your favorite thing about your career?
WA: Acquiring and sharing knowledge followed by seeing smiling faces of our graduates.
For what are you most grateful today?
WA: God’s grace.
Favorite game or sport to watch and play?
WA: Soccer/Cycling.
A favorite restaurant?
WA: Boat House.
What advice would you give to someone in their 20s?
WA: Get closer to wise men/women and seek advice on career and life challenges and opportunities.
