UTC College of Business Economics Professor Dr. Bonnal recently took a group of economics students to visit the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga. Students visited with the Purchasing Department at Volkswagen and also met with the Human Resources Department to discuss internship opportunities,listened to presentations by current interns about their latest projects, and toured the factory to view assembly lines for the latest models of the VW Passat and Atlas.
The Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga currently has more than 3,200 employees on a 1,400 acre plant site. From an economic standpoint, the plant is expected to have an overall impact of $12 billion in income growth in Tennessee and $1.4 billion in total tax revenues. It is the first and only LEED Platinum certified auto plant worldwide.
