The 2017-18 Business Living Learning Community students and their Program Director, Jaclyn York, traveled to many businesses and volunteered their time to help others during the Fall 2017 semester.
“We are currently in our fifth year and the cohort from this semester has been incredible”, said York, Program Director. “We have had hiring managers and various professionals from companies such as Elliott Davis, Covenant Transport, and PlayCore visit our class to provide resume advice and interviewing best practices. We have sincerely made lasting connections in the business community. In fact – there are already a number of this year’s cohort who have landed internships as first semester freshmen which is almost unheard of at this point in many collegiate careers. Most importantly – we had fun!”
Next semester, the cohort plans to visit the Small Business Development Center, Erlanger Hospital, and many other locations around Chattanooga. Applications are now being accepted for the 2018-19 academic year and are due May 1, 2018! To apply, visit www.utc.edu/bllc
Not familiar with the Business LLC? It is a “Living and Learning Community” hosted in conjunction with UTC’s Housing Department. The Business LLC provides first-time freshmen who are pre-Business majors the opportunity to:
- Integrate academic and social lives through common living quarters, class schedules and outside activities during their freshman year at UTC
- Work closely with juniors and seniors majoring in business, College faculty, campus administrators and community leaders while on campus
Students who participate in any LLC exhibit higher academic success during their first year in college; develop strong interpersonal relationships in and out of the classroom; utilize more campus resources; participate in more campus activities; and mature into confident leaders in and out of college.
