Senior John Crain successfully balances school and military service while gaining real-world business experience

In just four years, John Crain has amassed an impressive amount of real world experience.

John, a senior Human Resources major, has taken advantage of numerous opportunities through UTC’s Gary W. Rollins College of Business including a Human Resources internship with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), one of Chattanooga’s largest employers.

“The last 4 years have been amazing,” John said. “I have grown as a student, as a man, and professionally during my time in the Rollins College of Business. My experiences have been great and I have learned so much that I’ll be able to apply to the real world after graduation.”

His UTC involvement extends outside of the Rollins College of Business with a double major in Military Science. After graduation, he plans to pursue a part time position as a signal corps officer in the United States National Guard.

John said he chose to attend The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga because of its location.

“I knew that I wanted to be away from home, but not too far. UTC is only two hours from my home town of Nashville, the campus is beautiful, and the Rollins College of Business is one of the top business schools, if not the best in Tennessee,” he said.

When asked about the most impactful services and experiences provided to him by the college, John recalled his experience with the Joseph F. Decosimo Success Center Career Services team.

“They do a great job of putting together events such as externships, career fairs, and professionals who are available to speak in our business courses,” he said. “Through the Rollins College of Business I have seen my professional network grow tremendously.

“My experiences in the Rollins College of Business are timeless,” John said. “Adapting to college as a freshman was easy because the faculty and staff are so helpful, the classes teach you a lot, and I can confidently say that I am very prepared for my future career.”
