The trip to Germany with the College of Business was an unforgettable experience. Not only did we get to see so many things, we had a lot of fun doing it. I had been eying this study trip ever since my sophomore year, and now that I got to go on it, it was special. The group of people that were on the trip made it 10x better. I was nervous about having to meet all these strangers in a country I was new to, but it worked out just fine. I was happy I got to meet some new friends. The UTC faculty leaders were awesome as well, it was great getting to know them.
There were a whole bunch of activities and sights we got to see while in Germany, however, there are a few that stood out and were my favorite. The first one would be getting to explore Berlin in our free time. It was nice being able to take the train or bus anywhere in the city at any time. Most of our nights were free and this was perfect to go eat some good food and get to know others in the group. I feel like we became a tight group because of these experiences. There was so much to see in Berlin, we ended up just walking somewhere random and it turned into seeing something new every time. The next highlight was all the tours and walking tours we went on. During these tours we got to see some historical things in the city. I learned a great bit of history I didn’t know before coming on the trip. Included in these tours was Volkswagen and the Autostadt. These two were my favorite tours. I had been looking forward to these since I applied for the trip. Lastly, getting a real good taste of German culture. We got to meet and talk with many Germans on the trip as well as try all different types of food and drinks that Germans partake in. I quite enjoyed trying new foods and things we don’t have here in America.
I was able to travel for a few days after the trip with UTC and made some more memories. I got to go to a soccer game in Berlin one night and that was unreal. One of my goals when going on the trip was to go to a soccer match and it was worth it 100 percent. It was a beautiful day and the atmosphere was fantastic. Another highlight of my time in Germany.
I am so blessed and thankful to be able to go on this trip to Germany. I cannot wait for the next opportunity to travel overseas. This was my first time in Europe, and I loved it. There is so much I want to explore over there.
Caleb Starnes is majoring in Finance and spent part of May 2019 participating in a faculty-led trip to Germany through the Rollins College of Business. Caleb had the following to say about studying abroad, “Getting to travel while you are in school is an awesome experience. It is even better when you get to go with a great group of people. The friends and experiences you will make are unforgettable.”
