When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do

For July 2018, I spent my time abroad in Rome, Italy. While abroad, I studied Roman Archaeology (on-site) and History of Modern Europe. I was able to go on this trip through a program called ISA. ISA was awesome and extremely helpful the entire time before I left, while I was there, and still even though I have returned home. They also helped facilitate trips while I was over

Rooted in Africa, Global in Reach

I’ve been lucky enough to have a few opportunities to travel before college, however, I had never committed to being away from home for so long. However, my late father was originally from South Africa, and told me fond stories of travelling all over the world in his youth before finding his home in the United States. After looking into a few different study abroad programs and considering several

Je t’aime, Paris

This summer I decided to embark on a journey that would help my French speaking career. I studied abroad to Paris, France – most known for the Eiffel Tower, baguettes, brie cheese, and of course the French language. During my stay there I met different people from around the world – this was one experiences that stood out for me the most. I met people from Italy, South Korea,

A “Pura Vida” Experience

This summer was (technically) the first time that I studied abroad, the first time that I traveled alone, and really, the first time that I made a decision solely for me, by me. I went to Costa Rica with the goal of absorbing the Spanish language more than I had in the past. I’ve been volunteering with La Paz in town, and I’ve noticed that parents are more comfortable

While in Spain

I am very happy with my experience in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. Every experience that I had made me more confident and independent in a way that I don’t think any experiences in places familiar to me could have. I am not as terrified of public speaking, I am more comfortable with getting lost, I am not as hard on myself about making mistakes, and I have more patience

Scotland Rocks: The Geology of Scotland Study Abroad Course

Going out to see the world is assuredly one of the better ways to broaden one’s knowledge and appreciation for the world in general as well as those who inhabit it. The experience as a whole was genuinely the best trip I’ve ever taken, it allowed me to experience another country’s culture while simultaneously adding to my knowledge in my major much better than I ever would’ve thought possible.

Just the Beginning: South Korea Summer 2018

The University of Ulsan Summer Program 2018 was built to allow student to learn and experience Korean language, history, and culture. The program consisted of numerous field trips and classes that explored the history and culture of Korea. This summer there was a total of forty-five students from all over the world that participated

The Facets of Spain

Studying abroad in Spain was a wonderful experience because of the language immersion. The majority of my time was spent in Alcalá de Henares, which is in the greater Madrid area. Before I left to go to Spain I always felt a little strange about speaking Spanish, yet after being immersed I feel like it is more normal. After hearing everyday high frequency words and phrases I can connect

A Summer in Spain

This summer, I studied abroad in Spain for 2 months. I stayed in a town right outside of Madrid named Alcalá de henares. It is a smaller town than Madrid, but still rich with history. In fact, Miguel Cervantes, the writer of the books “Don Quixote” was born there. There are many buildings there that date all the way back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The town is

The Unforgettable Journey

Going to Barcelona , Spain was the best choice that I could have made and I will never regret it. I learned many things while I was staying in Barcelona. The best part of my study abroad was meeting and making friends from all over the United States and the world. Having the opportunity to stay in Barcelona and navigating the beautiful city that had so much to offer
