We’re so proud of Chenyu, the first-ever recipient of the Outstanding International Undergraduate Student of the Year Award! At the end of Spring 2020, Chenyu received a cash prize of $500.
Chenyu is from China and just completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at UTC. He is a dedicated student and even made the Dean’s List while staying engaged with extracurricular activities, such as volunteering at the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
At our virtual End-of-the-Year Celebration in May, CGE recognized Chenyu’s accomplishments not only as an award winner, but also as a graduate. He gave an inspiring speech, saying:
“First of all, I thank all staff of the Center for Global Education. Thank you for awarding me this wonderful honor. And I appreciate my parents and my girlfriend who supported me all the time and gave me the motivation to keep forward.
Second, international education means a lot to me. It gives me an opportunity to jump out of my comfort zone and to know lovely friends from different cultural backgrounds.
Also, I love UTC, because the great study atmosphere and great [facilities] gives me the incentive to explore the possibility of myself. And those fabulous events held by the Center for Global Education is also a catalyst for my knowledge of colorful cultural diversity.
The biggest lesson I learned from this year is that turning ideas into action is the key to starting everything. It really help me to step forward and make progress.
Finally, my hope for the future is simple, turn my idea to action and keep going to climb.”
Congratulations, Chenyu! We are so proud of you, and we hope to see you back in Chattanooga soon.
