Let’s give it up for Shahab, the first-ever winner of the Outstanding International Graduate Student of the Year Award! Shahab will receive a cash prize of $500.
Shahab, who is from Iran, came to UTC in Fall 2019 to pursue his PhD in computational science. His focus is computational engineering. Shahab has worked hard all year, and he is still at it. This summer, he will travel to Sweden to work as a research assistant in a collaboration between UTC and Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology.
Shahab is an active member of the #UTCGlobal family. He participated in at least seven CGE and UTC events this spring semester while excelling academically.
We had the pleasure of hearing from Shahab during the End of the Year Celebration when he gave his speech saying,
“I want to thank all my friends, classmates, and my colleagues at ConnectSmart, which also merit to be named UTC’s 2020 Outstanding Graduate Students of the Year. I feel proud because I have been compared with outstanding students at UTC.
I love UTC for its variety of education-programs which gave me the possibility to get to know ambitious and inspirational students and teachers. The greatest challenges this year as an international student have been my greatest achievements. I challenged myself to study abroad, learn a new language, appreciate other cultures, overcome challenges of living in another country in order to gain a greater understanding of the world.
I want to thank the Center for Global Education and all the professors who supported and motivated me during this new journey of my life, especially my advisor, Dr. Disfani.
I still have a long way ahead but my hopes for the future are to be able to contribute to the life of future generations through research and innovation.”
Congratulations, Shahab! We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished. Best of luck in Sweden, and see you soon. 💙💛
