I chose to study abroad in Athens, Greece for my whole summer. Best decision and summer I have ever had. I was in Greece for almost 3 months which is a long time to be abroad and be away from everyone you usually see including your family and friends. I made friends right when I got there, and I am not the most outgoing girl. That was the part I was most nervous about, making friends. Little did I know at the time that I was going to make some lifelong friends. Not just people from the U.S. either, I have lifelong friends from all over Europe who went to my university in Greece. But my friends that I made in Europe that live in the U.S., I now can visit them across the country.
In my time abroad, I got to visit 6 countries and 15+ cities. Not only did I spend most of my time in Greece I also got to visit Austria, France, Netherlands, Montenegro, and Italy. I loved traveling around because if you do, you get to experience many different cultures. Not only cultures but you get to try lots of different foods and meet all different types of people. Not only are you getting to travel the world, but you are getting to travel the world with all your new friends. A huge recommendation that I would make would be to take a lot of pictures and videos. In my time abroad, I made videos every few weeks to capture the best moments. It’s always going to be such a treat for me to look back on all my moments I had in Summer 2018.
I would recommend studying abroad to anyone and everyone. It may be scary to commit to going for a long period of time, but I believe the longer you go the better. You will get to experience, learn, and see more the longer you go. If you are debating and cannot decide whether to go, take the chance. Make the most of your experience and enjoy every second of it because you will be on an airplane on the way home so soon you will think your whole time abroad was just a dream.
