An interesting conversation with a local man, a visit to a national park and thoughts on Black History Month are a few of the things on the mind of UTC English professor James Arnett during his time in Zimbabwe.

Arnett headed to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in August of last year after receiving a Fulbright Core Teaching/Research Fellowship. His fellowship is a 10-month grant to teach at National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo. Arnett is conducting research on Bulawayo’s literary history, past infrastructure and current programs for encouraging creative writing and literary production.

In his latest blog post, he recounts his varied experiences in Africa and his thoughts on Black History Month and Black excellence based on the recent blockbuster movie, Black Panther.
