Dr. Gavin Townsend, UTC Professor of Art History, was recently honored with the dedication of a model Viking ship. With a special research interest of American architectural history, Townsend has received the SGA Outstanding Professor Award, has served as Faculty Senate President, and also been on the Tennessee Historical Commission.
Each spring the Cress Gallery hosts the Senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibitions, the capstone event of the creative research of students enrolled in the professional curriculum of the Department of Art at UTC. The 2014 Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibitions “Show One” will run until Friday, April 11, at the Cress Gallery of Art.
The Cress Gallery of Art at The University of Tennessee Chattanooga announces the 2014 UTC Department of Art Juried Student Exhibition, supported by the Friends of the Cress Gallery. Jered Sprecher, Artist and Associate Professor of Art at University of Tennessee Knoxville, serves as juror.
Selections II: The UTC Permanent Collection of Art will be on exhibit through Friday, July 27, at the Cress Gallery of Art. Gallery summer hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Cress is closed on weekends.
Phillip Lewis, UC Foundation Assistant Professor of Art, has been awarded a Creative Capital Project Grant in Visual Arts. This prestigious national award will support his new project entitled SYNONYM. SYNONYM is a multi-disciplined project, which includes photographs, video, performance, installation, and the dissemination of information about experiences from inside the war on drugs and extremist treatment facilities.
