Members of UTC’s Center for Energy, Transportation and the Environment hosted hundreds of students from several Hamilton County schools for the 2009 First Lego League robotics competition. Students took a tour of the testing facility and learned about the research conducted there.
The Advanced Vehicle Testing facility hosted this year’s Lego League competition because the theme was advanced transportation. Students were asked to develop and solve a transportation problem. They made presentations and answered questions about their robotic designs and programming.
Students from Chattanooga area schools won several awards in December at the national competition in Cookeville.
The area teams are sponsored by the Chattanooga Engineers Club, the TVA Partner-In-Education program, Chattanooga State, and the UTC Engineering research program, as well as a number of local firms in the technology area.
This year the Chattanooga Engineer’s Club is working with teams from Brainerd Baptist School, Ooltewah Middle School, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy, Silverdale Academy, a Lookout Valley home school team, Tyner Middle Academy, an East Brainerd home school team, and a St. Elmo after school neighborhood team.
