Professors from the Women’s Studies department will present lectures in their areas of expertise as part of the department’s annual lecture series that runs Monday, February 1 through Wednesday, March 31.
Topics include women in correctional facilities, the use of sexual epithets, and women missionaries and social reform in 19th century Southern Africa.
Maria Noe, professor of English and director of women’s studies, said three lectures presented in fall 2009 were a success, drawing crowds of 50 to 100 people. The lectures give professors an opportunity to expand on topics they teach and discuss their current research.
“With our Explore, Connect, and Empower Lecture series we enable our students to connect the foundational concepts they learn in their women’s studies classes with current issues in women’s studies and research in which their professors are engaged,” said Noe.
All lectures will take place in the UTC University Center at 5:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
