Eight-year-old Emory is doing things she’s never been able to do before, thanks to an adapted car seat made into a rocker with wheels.
Junior engineering student Arthur Rogers explains Emory’s rocker is very versatile, designed for a child who needs assistance with movement.
“Wheels make the rocker very mobile. She can rock herself, her parents can roll her between them and she can also recline to watch TV,” Rogers said.
Emory is eight years old and due to her physical disabilities, has reached her maximum height. Rogers said the rocker was designed to hold up to 200 pounds.
Rogers said the team of engineering students including Hunter Dockery (sophomore), Sam Kuntz (sophomore), Wes Brown (senior), Charlie Rodey (Junior) and himself had an important tip about creating this rocker.
“We wanted it to be safe, secure, and easy to use. It couldn’t have any sharp edges and we didn’t want Emory’s arms or legs to be able to get under the rocker. So we measured six times and cut once!” Rogers said.
