More than 70 students were honored at this year’s Outstanding Senior Awards Ceremony. The annual award ceremony recognizes students who have demonstrated the highest levels of academic achievement in their undergraduate degree programs.
Yancy Freeman, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services, spoke to the seniors during the ceremony about taking advantage of new opportunities. “This is this generation’s time to prove themselves. Go out and continue what UTC started. Make us proud,” he said.
Jennifer Manning, a UTC student, was named the Outstanding Senior in the major of English: Writing this year. “It is an aggrandizing recognition, particularly because it is shared between representatives of the highest order from each major at UTC,” she said.
“More importantly, this event invites the recipient to honor a professor who aided in his/her academic achievements. In these two ways, the ceremony creates an intellectual fellowship among various disciplines and among educators and their pupils,” Manning continued.
The ceremony was initiated by the Student Government Association in 1986 and represents the student government’s dedication to promoting outstanding achievement and excellence.
