All it took was a couple of largemouth bass and the Mocs Bass Anglers secured a top finish in the 2011 Boat U.S Collegiate Bass Fishing Open. The Bass Anglers, who separated into two teams for the event, both placed well in the competition that took place at Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tennessee.
The first Mocs Bass Anglers team placed fourth out of 38 teams. Participating Bass Anglers included Robby Crosslin, James Childers, Trent Huie, Caleb Clements, Taylor Massingill, and Alex Craw. The second team, consisting of Taylor Bolton, Cliff Dye, Parker Bacon, and Kris Lape, placed 14th. Both teams placed higher than larger schools like the University of Tennessee, University of Kentucky and University of Georgia.
“This unique event featured a true team format that allowed teammates to share information and work together to amass the largest amount of weight possible over two days of competition,” Craw said.
In the competition, the winning team was determined by the combined weight of each team’s catches. The first team had a two-day weight of 38.79 pounds. One fish, a giant 7.54-pound largemouth bass caught by Robby Crosslin, was the largest fish caught in day two of the competition.
“This is a tremendous feat considering the field consisted of 170 college anglers and Crosslin fished the event out of a wheelchair,” Craw continued.
The fourth place finish secured the Mocs Bass Anglers a $500 cash prize and $250 in gift cards. The finish was also the best among the seven Tennessee colleges and 10 Tennessee teams competing at the tournament.
