Take refuge from the chilly fall weather and attend one of the many upcoming performances offered by the UTC Department of Music. All of the events are free and open to the public.
On Wednesday, November 2, Les Violoncelles, (Cello Choir) of Georgia State University under the direction of Martha Gerschefski will be in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Formed in 1990, Les Violoncelles performs widely throughout the southeastern US and internationally in Chile.
On Thursday, November 3, flutist Dr. John Bailey will perform in Cadek Recital Hall flutist at 7:30 p.m. Bailey is the Larson Professor of Flute at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln School of Music. He is principal flutist with the Lincoln Symphony and has several recording and performance credits. He will present a program of primarily modern music for flute and piano with the aid of UTC accompanist Tim Hinck.
On Friday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Roland Hayes Concert Hall, the department presents a studio recital by the piano students of Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai, UC Foundation Associate Professor and Music Director of Piano Studies. Featuring nine of Tsai’s students in solo and duo performances, the program includes the Bach Prelude and Fugue in F-sharp Minor, Beethoven’s “Tempest” Sonata, Beethoven “32 Variations in C Minor,” and the Brahms’ “Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel” among other works to be performed.
On Tuesday, November 8, graduate percussionist Christie Carroll will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall. Her recital will include a Bach Prelude and Fugue, a contemporary piece for Timpani and Hi-Hat, and other works featuring various percussion instruments.
