Dr. Ralph Wood will present “Rum, Romanism, and the Sacramental Imagination: G.K. Chesterton as Defender of the Faith” for the Thirtieth Annual C. S. Lewis Lecture to be held Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Benwood Auditorium of the UTC Engineering, Math and Computer Science Building, located at Vine and Palmetto Streets. This event is free and open to the public.
Wood, Professor of Theology and Literature at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, serves as an editor-at-large for the Christian Century and is a member of the editorial board of the Flannery O’Connor Review. His publications include Chesterton: The Nightmare Goodness of God, The Comedy of Redemption: Christian Faith and Comic Vision in Four American Novelists, Contending for the Faith: The Church’s Engagement with Culture, The Gospel According to Tolkien: Visions of the Kingdom in Middle-earth, and Flannery O’Connor and the Christ-Haunted South.
Wood has taught at North Park College, Wake Forrest University, Samford University, Providence College as well as at Baylor.
His lecture is being sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, UTC and Covenant College.
Preceding the lecture, UTC’s University Honors students will host an informal seminar led by Wood on Flannery O’Connor’s short story “The River.” This informal seminar, also free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. in the Flag Room of the Guerry Center.
