The Multidisciplinary Council on Judicial Studies is sponsoring a public forum on the US federal health care plan on Wednesday, March 21, 5-7 p.m., in the Chattanooga Rooms of the UTC University Center. This forum will be held before three days of argument scheduled in the Supreme Court of the United States, where the constitutionality of the legislation will be debated.
“It is not a forum to advocate for or against the law, but rather to educate the public on the multiple issues related to the constitutionality of the legislation,” said Judge Neil Thomas III, who presides over the Fourth Division of Hamilton County Circuit Court and teaches at UTC as an adjunct professor.
Speakers include retired Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Mickey Barker, Dr. Clif Cleaveland, Tony Hullender, General Counsel of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, UTC economist Dr. Bruce Hutchinson, and a representative of the Chattanooga Associated Health Underwriters. The panel members will present the legal, medical, insurance and economic aspects of the legislation.
Judge Thomas will serve as moderator. Following the speakers’ presentations, Thomas will accept written questions.
