A group of pre-service teachers recently gathered to attend the NASA Education, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Workshop, where they engaged in a hands-on activity designed to monitor the progress of an eclipse. It was one way the students learned to effectively teach elementary and middle school students.
Dr. Deborah A. McAllister, UC Foundation Professor, worked with NASA to bring the workshop to UTC. McAllister and personnel from the Academic Affairs Office at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center have partnered in the recent past to secure grant funding.
The STEM workshop provided NASA-developed curriculum support resources which meet national standards; ideas for integration of NASA Education resources and activities into lesson planning and curriculum; and hands-on, inquiry-based methods for teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
