10 a.m. – 11 a.m. –Hanukkah Lights 2012—A perennial NPR favorite, Hanukkah Lights features Hanukkah stories and memoirs written by acclaimed authors expressly for the show as read by NPR’s Susan Stamberg and Max Horwitz.
11 a.m. – 12 Noon—All Songs Considered For The Holidays—It’s the 4th edition of the wonky holiday tradition from NPR Music. Host Bob Boilen and friends trade holiday cheer and snarky barbs while bringing you the best holiday songs from new and emerging breakout bands. The show presents fresh renditions of holiday tunes.
12 Noon – 1 p.m.—The Vinyl Café Christmas Special #1 (2- 30 minute stories) – First, a story about Trouble The Turkey: In an effort to bond with his son, Dave decides that this Christmas, he should not only prepare the turkey, he should also raise it. The second story is about the time Morley is asked to stage the holiday pageant at his son’s school.
1 p.m. – 2 p.m.—The Vinyl Café Christmas Special #2 (2 – 30 minute stories)—The first is a story about the Christmas neighbors Rashida and Amir spend in Canada. The second story is about Polly Anderson’s neighborhood Christmas Party…the one where Dave accidently spikes the kid’s punch bowl.
2 p.m.- 3 p.m.— The Vinyl Café Christmas Special #3 (2-30 minute stories)—First, a story about the Christmas float Dave built and drove when he was a teenager in the Big Narrows Annual Christmas Parade. The second story is about the time Dave and his family head off in the family car with plans to spend Christmas in the Narrows with Dave’s mother. To their dismay, a blizzard drives them off the road and into a nearly deserted motel, where they spend the holiday with the misanthropic motel owner.
3 p.m. – 4 p.m.—The Vinyl Café Christmas Special #4 (2-30 minute stories)—After an unseasonably warm December, Morley tells Dave that all she wants for Christmas is snow. Dave hears her words – A White Christmas. The second story is about the time when Dave cooks the family turkey…or more to the point, doesn’t.
4 p.m.-8 p.m.—All Things Considered—A comprehensive look at today’s news.
8 p.m. – 9 p.m.—Jazz Piano Christmas XXIII –NPR Music brings you another great concert from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. NEA Jazz Master/Pianist Ellis Marsalis, Jason Moran, Geri Allen and Taylor Eigsti, and other artists perform their favorite holiday songs.
9 p.m. to 10 p.m.— Festivo Alt. Latino—NPR’s Music’s Alt. Latino hosts Felix Contreras and Jasmine Garsd take us on a Latin American holiday travelogue through the eyes and ears of four very different Latin Alternative musicians who go back to their musical and cultural roots.
10 p.m. to 12 a.m.—A Paul Winter Solstice Concert—Once again on the darkest night of the year, NPR Music presents the illuminating tradition from New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine: the 32nd annual Paul Winter Solstice Celebration, featuring gospel singer Theresa Thomason, Mbira Master Chris Berry and the Paul Winter Consort with Paul McCandless, Eugene Friesen, Paul Sullivan, Eliot Wadopian, Jamey Haddad, Tim Brumfield and the glorious Cathedral Pipe Organ.
