Recent graduate crowned Miss Tennessee
Chandler Lawson, UTC alumna and Miss Chattanooga, was crowned Miss Tennessee 2012 and has been awarded more than $25,000 in college scholarships from her participation in the Miss America program, including the Miss America Organization’s State Academic Scholarship in 2011 and the Miss America Organization’s State Community Service Award in 2012.
Professor honored by Tennessee Music Education Association
In recognition of Dr. William R. Lee’s service spanning twenty-seven years, the 1,500- member Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA) has inducted the UTC Professor and Coordinator of Music Education into its Hall of Fame. The awards ceremony was a feature of the annual conference of the organization, held this year in Chattanooga.
Theatre Department to assist in community production of Godspell
In partnership with the Salvation Army of Chattanooga, the UTC Department of Theatre and Speech will assist in a community production of the popular musical, Godspell on July 20th and 21st at 7:30 p.m., July 22nd at 2 p.m., and July 23rd and 24th at 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army at 800 McCallie Ave.

Racing Mocs place in top 25 in latest competition
The Racing Mocs, UTC’s student-led Baja team, placed in the top 25 of more than 100 teams at the Society of Engineers (SAE) Midwest international competition in Madison, Wisconsin. The competition ends a spectacular run for the team who placed in the top ten in their past two contests this year.
Two new UTC degrees receive UT Board approval
Two degree offerings planned for UTC received approval from the UT Board of Trustees on Thursday, June 21st. Both the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) and the Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) require approval by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, scheduled to meet on July 26.
Institute offers strategies to local teachers
A group of Hamilton County elementary teachers representing 30 different schools learned new strategies to manage their classrooms at the first William Butterfield Classroom Management Institute, held at UTC. A total of 150 people participated, including administrators, pre-service teachers from UTC, and representatives from community organizations.
