Anna Lane, Assistant to the Dean at Lupton Library, received the Tennessee Library Association (TLA) Support Staff Award at the TLA annual conference, held in Chattanooga in April 2013. She was nominated by Theresa Liedtka, Dean of the Lupton Library, and Virginia Cairns, Head of Reference and Instruction.
“The award recognizes outstanding performance in four areas of librarian support:
- Ability to demonstrate superior and/or creative knowledge and skills in a staff support position;
- May have assumed duties formerly performed by a librarian;
- Promotes the library with a positive attitude;
- Performs above and beyond the call of duty in the role of support staff when assisting a librarian in serving the needs of the library.”
In their nominating letter, Liedtka and Cairns said Lane’s amazing organizational and interpersonal skills benefit not only the administrative office, but everyone who works at the library.
“In addition to routine paperwork, Anna is also the keeper of the majority of our library’s budgetary documentation. Her accuracy and careful attention to detail with our finances insures that we are able to move forward with plans and projects secure in the knowledge that we have a precise accounting of the monetary resources available to us,” they wrote.
Lane’s positive attitude and exceptional interpersonal skills are among her most memorable attributes, Liedtka and Cairns explained.
“Her sense of humor and good-natured approach to dealing with the stresses of work and life are always a welcome relief when demands pile up and deadlines are short. Anna has developed strong relationships with her co-workers across the library and she often coordinates our annual social events such as the Halloween and Christmas parties. Anna also serves on every single one of our Search Committees and has an uncanny ability to connect with and evaluate potential job candidates. Her perceptive insights into each candidate are crucial when we make those all-important hiring decisions.”
Lane has worked at UTC since 1999. She transferred to the Library in 2003.
