The Music Department and Master Chorale present the Master Chorale 2013 Summer Concert to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
This free performance will be presented on Thursday, June 20, 7:30 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine Street, Chattanooga. Donations to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund will be accepted at the performance.
The concert will be offered in two parts. The first features The Requiem, by North Carolina native Steve Dobrogosz, and the second, a set of love songs. The Requiem was premièred in the United States by the UTC Music Department in February 2010 as a fundraiser for earthquake relief in Haiti. This forty-five minute work was originally performed in the composer’s current home Stockholm, Sweden, before making its way to Chattanooga. Amy Oakes, soprano, is the soloist for this piece.
Love songs will be conducted by students and will feature James Mulholland’s “A Red, Red Rose,” Morten Lauridsen’s “Dirait-On,” Robert H. Young’s “Lovesight,” Egil Hovland’s “Karin Baye’s Evening Prayer,” Benjamin Britten’s “Fancie,” and Alberto Favero’s “Te Quiero.” Soloists for “Te Quiero” are James McClary, bass, and altos Jennifer Allen and Gabrielle Haston.
Master Chorale is a volunteer group comprised of 37 graduate and undergraduate students, as well as talented singers from the Chattanooga, Dalton, and Sewanee communities. Graduate student conductors this summer are Denise Adeniyi, graduate student, Ashley Cisto, Choral Director at Hixson High School and Kevin Moore, Choral Director at Ringgold High School.
Dr. J. Kevin Ford has served as Director of Choral Activities at UTC for nine years. David Friberg is organist at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and is the accompanist for Chattanooga Choral Arts.
