Taking a cue from Chattanooga’s storied manufacturing history, this year’s homecoming theme is “Made in Chattanooga.” Plenty of fun events for students, alumni, and the community are planned to lead up to the big game on Saturday, October 12, when the football Mocs take on the Furman Paladins at 6 p.m. at Finley Stadium. Monday, October 7
Homecoming week will kick off with a pep rally at Heritage Plaza on at 11:50 a.m. Hear from coaches, students, and more about their plan for the showdown with the Furman Paladins. The 2013 Homecoming Court will also be announced along with music from the UTC band and cheers by the UTC spirit squads. This event is free and open to the public.
Tuesday, October 8
Student organizations will compete in the Lipsync Competition sponsored by the Campus Activities Board at 8 p.m. in McKenzie Arena. Come out and watch how our students turn this year’s theme, “Made in Chattanooga,” into a six-minute performance you’ll never forget! This event is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, October 9
The tradition of field games never gets old. Students from all campus organizations come together to compete in various field games like the annual Trout Joust, tug of war, and bed races. This event takes place at Heritage Plaza and Challenger Fields at 3:45 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Thursday, October 10
What can be more appetizing than a great evening celebration with a special UTC Homecoming Brew at Big River Grille? Hosted by the UTC GOLD Council, this year’s Tap Party begins at 5 p.m. at Big River Grille in downtown Chattanooga.
Join the students, campus and community for one of the longest running Homecoming traditions, Step Show! Student organizations are prepared to “step it up” as they give the crowd the most anticipated performances of Homecoming week! Step Show is at 8 p.m. in McKenzie Arena. This event is free and open to the public.
Friday, October 11
Grab some friends, don your best blue and gold golf outfit, and make plans to play in the annual Homecoming Golf Tournament at the Bear Trace Golf Course at Harrison Bay. Shotgun start is at noon. The proceeds from this tournament help to fund alumni programming and UTC student scholarships. Visit the 2013 UTC Homecoming Golf Tournament website for more details and registration.
Join Coach Huesman, his staff, and various football players at Miller Plaza for a community pep rally at noon at Miller Plaza in downtown Chattanooga to help get everyone ready for the game on Saturday. The Marching Mocs and UTC spirit squads will all be on hand to perform as well to get everyone in the spirit for the weekend’s festivities. This event is free and open to the public.
Alumni, students, faculty and staff are welcome to bring the family down to campus for a family friendly flick on Challenger Field at 8 p.m. Bring your favorite movie snacks and pitch a blanket outside for a fun-filled evening the whole family can enjoy! This event is free and open to the public.
Head to the center of campus for a night of fun and live music. Noogabend kicks off 7:00 p.m. with outdoor concerts and free food. Featured artist Natalie Stovall and the Drive begins at 8 p.m. This activity is hosted by the Student Homecoming Committee and Campus Activities Board.
Saturday, October 12
Join the UTC Mocs Club for “Breakfast with Coach Huesman” and get a preview of the big game versus SoCon rival Furman. The event begins at 8 a.m. in the University Center Chickamauga Room. Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Chamberlain Field and Stadium with the dedication of the new Chamberlain Pavilion at 10 a.m. Reflecting the architecture of the former stadium and incorporating building elements from the original structure, Chamberlain Pavilion pays tribute to the winning traditions and stands as a beautiful new gateway to our new library. Former chancellors, athletics directors, players, band members, cheerleaders, and members of the Chamberlain Family will join others in remembering our heritage and embracing our future.
We will also be rededicating the Alumni Torch in its new home adjacent to the pavilion. Erected in 1986 in conjunction with UTC’s 100th anniversary and the UTAA’s 150th anniversary, the Alumni Torch burns brightly to represent the leadership and contributions of our outstanding alumni in all University of Tennessee institutions across the state.
Chamberlain Pavilion is located near Cardiac Hill in the heart of campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Christopher Kirkpatrick
The UTC Music Department presents clarinetist and UTC alumnus Dr. Christopher Kirkpatrick in a guest artist recital on Sunday, October 13 at 3 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center. Kirkpatrick’s eclectic program will include Robert Muczynski’s Time Pieces (a “tour de force” for clarinet and piano), Leo Weiner’s Peregi Verbunk (a work steeped in the Hungarian folk element), Felix Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No. 2, Op. 114 for two clarinets and piano, and Eric Mandat’s unaccompanied piece Tricolor Capers. He will be assisted by pianist Tim Hinck, and UTC’s clarinet professor Dr. Nikolasa Tejero. This event is free and open to the public.
About the guest artist…
Since graduating from UTC in 2001 with a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance, Kirkpatrick earned a Master of Music degree from the University of New Mexico and a DMA from Michigan State University. His teachers have included Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, Keith Lemmons, Steve Cohen, Ted Gurch, Nikolasa Tejero, and Peter Temko.
Over the past several years, Kirkpatrick has established himself as a performing artist and teacher of the clarinet, playing with ensembles like the Detroit Symphony, Lansing Symphony, West Michigan Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, Santa Fe Symphony, Missoula Symphony, and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. In addition he has appeared at numerous national and international conferences, including the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest®, College Music Society, North American Saxophone Alliance, the Oklahoma State University Clarinet Festival, the Montana/Idaho Clarinet Festival, the Brandon University Clarinet Festival, and the World Bass Clarinet Congress in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He has recorded on the Summit label and the Blue Griffin label, and can be heard on a recently released recording of William Walton’s Facade: An Entertainment with the Albion Chamber Players. Currently Kirkpatrick is Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Montana and serves in the International Clarinet Association as the Montana State Chair.
