The Mocs are back in action at McKenzie Arena for the beginning of basketball season! Both the Mocs and Lady Mocs will open their seasons on Friday, November 8. The men tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the women at 7 p.m.
Chaos arrives at McKenzie Arena when Mocs play nearby Covenant College at 5:30 p.m. The Mocs return with four starters and eight total letterwinners from last season’s squad.
The team will be led by first-year head coach Will Wade. Wade is a 2005 graduate of Clemson, and has previously coached at Clemson, Harvard, and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). His hiring signaled a new era for the basketball program. He brings with him the high intensity, fast-paced, ball-hawking intensity that led the VCU Rams to national prominence.
Expectations are high for the Lady Mocs, who will take on Alabama in McKenzie Arena at 7:30 p.m. The team is the defending their Southern Conference title, and was chosen to win again this year in the SoCon Women’s Basketball Coaches Preseason Poll.
The Lady Mocs will be under the direction of first-year head coach Jim Foster. Foster, who spent the last 11 seasons at The Ohio State University, was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this past summer and boasts an overall record of 783-307 (.718). He inherits a team that features 10 returning letterwinners including six seniors.
