The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Steve Angle announces the appointment of Dr. Bryan Rowland as Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs and Executive Director of the UC Foundation, Inc.
“Bryan’s fundraising experience and passion for higher education are a great fit with UTC and the Chattanooga community,” said Angle.
Rowland currently serves as president of New Capital Strategies, a fundraising and communications/marketing consulting firm focused on non-profits, associations, universities, colleges, schools and organizations of all sizes.
“My family and I are very happy to be joining the team at UTC,” says Rowland. “The campus is alive with teaching, research, creativity, and achievement, and Chattanooga is a great community with a long history of philanthropic support for its University. This is an exciting opportunity and I look forward to being a part of the future of this outstanding campus and community.”
Rowland received his B.A. in liberal arts and sciences from The University of Illinois, his M.S. in workforce education and development from Southern Illinois University, and his Ph.D. in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
“I want to thank the search committee for doing an outstanding job in a short timeframe,” said Angle. “Committee Chairmen Dr. Richard Brown and Mr. Fred Decosimo led a dedicated group of committee members in the difficult task of selecting the right person for this important leadership position. I also want to thank our faculty, staff, students, alumni, foundation board, and community members who participated in the interview process. Their feedback and input was invaluable in the selection of Dr. Rowland.”
Rowland began his 20-year career in higher education holding several positions at the University of Arizona from 2002 to 2008, including vice president for development for Arizona Health Sciences with the University of Arizona Foundation. He also served as senior director of development and alumni relations for that university’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. From 2008 – 2010, he served as President of the Wright State University Foundation and Vice President for Advancement and Special Assistant to the Provost. He also served as the Chief Development Officer at Longwood University and the Chief Operating Officer of the Longwood University Foundation, Inc.
“Bryan brings a history of success in development and alumni affairs at other institutions of higher learning to our university. The breadth of his prior experience set him apart from a very impressive group of applicants for the position,” said Fred Decosimo, Chair of the University of Chattanooga Foundation and co-chair of the search committee. “Through the interview process, we came to believe that Brian’s past successes indicate that he has the qualities of leadership and team building we have come to expect in the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Rowland’s wife, Stephanie, and son, Jacob, will join him in Chattanooga. He assumes his new responsibilities at UTC beginning June 26.
