Students are finding it easier than ever to transfer college credits from community colleges to their earned credits at UTC and other universities in Tennessee. Through Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTPs), a collaborative effort by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the Tennessee Board of Regents, the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association, and the University of Tennessee system, transfer students are able to utilize the web-based program to ease the transition of working towards a bachelor’s degree.
A major portion of TTPs is an agreement between community colleges and four-year colleges/universities that confirms community college courses meet major preparation requirements. This streamlines the transfer process by avoiding the past problem of students having to retake courses upon transferring.
Andrew Evans, a senior environmental science major, took summer classes at Chattanooga State, and was relieved at the ease of the credit transfer system.
“The entire process was really stress free. All I had to do was mention I was planning to move the credits over to my UTC transcript and everything was pretty much taken care of,” said Evans.
In addition to the online help, advisement and orientations also go a long way towards integrating transfers into The University. From finding books for their courses to becoming acquainted with the campus, this face to face interaction is vital in the transfer process.
