This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Patten Performances, which brings the finest talent in music, dance, and theater right to our doorstep at the UTC Fine Arts Center.
All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. at the UTC Fine Arts Center on the corner of Vine and Palmetto Streets. Check online for ticket information.
September 9 – Ramsey Lewis
Lewis, called “the great performer,” is a multi-Grammy-winning jazz legend who was already one of the nation’s most successful jazz pianists by 1965.
September 20 – Count This Penny
Patten Unplugged brings this country-folk group with a new pop twist. Count This Penny’s first EP charted on iTunes’ singer-songwriter Top 10.
October 14 – Rioult Dance
Based in NYC, this modern dance company – one of the greatest dance companies of the century – presents the works of Pascal Rioult.
November 5 – Dave Mason
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason, formerly of the band Traffic, brings his influential guitar styled to UTC.
February 17 – Mummenschanz
If the only thing you know of mime theater is white faced actors pretending to be trapped in invisible boxes, then you need to see Mummenschanz. The group uses sculptural masks and the manipulation of light to create a playful show.
February 24 – Rory Block
After having dedicated her life to learning how to play the blues in 1964 Block has become one of the most celebrated female acoustic blues artists alive.
March 7 – Cello Fury
A part of Patten Unplugged, this performance surprisingly combines cello with rock. Consisting of three cellists and a drummer, Cello Fury has packed out venues ranging from concert halls to rock clubs.
March 10 – The Great Gatsby
The classic novel of decadence, idealism, and darkness is brought to life by the Montana Repertory Theater, one of the most respected touring companies in the nation.
This series was inaugurated in 1980 to honor of Dorothy Patten, one of Chattanooga’s most famous performing artists. Patten appeared in more than 30 Broadway plays, countless touring and summer stock productions, television shows and the movie, Botany Bay, with Alan Ladd and James Mason.
