Two UTC students who work in the Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) have been recognized by the UTC Student Government Association (SGA) for providing emergency medical assistance.
On September 29, 2014, a student who was working out on the fitness floor of the ARC suffered a sudden health problem resulting in cardiac arrest. Student staffers Connor Pearce, a junior and criminal justice major, and Macy Howell, a sophomore and geology major, were both on duty at the ARC that day.
“As a result of training, Macy and Connor took charge of the scene and started CPR,” said Miles Ledford, Assistant Director of Facilities in Campus Recreation. “Macy and Connor have both had outdoor and military leadership training, respectively, making them very familiar with emergency situations. As a result of these two student leaders taking immediate action and staying calm, all turned out well and they potentially saved the life of a fellow student.”
Pierce and Howell were named SGA Student of the Month for the months of October and November, respectively.
