A group of students, faculty, and staff attended the National Collegiate Honors Council annual conference in fall semester 2014. UTC participants presented research and offered presentations at the event in Denver, Colorado.
The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) is the professional association of undergraduate honors programs and colleges; honors directors and deans; and honors faculty, staff, and students. NCHC provides support for institutions and individuals developing, implementing, and expanding Honors education through curriculum development, program assessment, teaching innovation, national and international study opportunities, internships, service and leadership development, and mentored research.
Dr. Linda Frost, Dean of the UTC Honors College, presented the Signature Program “Creating and Using Honors Space(s)” with Leslie S. Jones, Appalachian State University and Joy Ochs,
Mount Mercy University. The session focused on how “dedicated honors spaces on campus can, do, and should support the mission of the honors program or college.”
Frost also presented “Successfully Working with the Housing Office: A Primer” with Timothy Johnson, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Housing and Residence Life at UTC, George Mariz, Western Washington University, and John Purdie, Western Washington University. The session offered insight “into the world of housing, examining the often fraught relationship that can exist between honors and housing.”
Sabir Munir, who served as the 2014-14 Brock Scholars Council President, presented “Honors Student Council Presidents: The Problems We Face and How We Solve Them,” with Dakota Galiardi, and Chase Kelly.
