The UTC Financial Wellness Center has entered into a new partnership with the Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU). The mission of the UTC Financial Wellness Center is to equip students with knowledge, tools and techniques that will increase their overall financial literacy, capability, satisfaction and wellness. TVFCU’s is partnering to support these efforts and help prepare students to be good stewards of their finances.
“The Financial Wellness Center is excited to be partnering with TVFCU and the possibilities that are available through this partnership,” said Bill Parker, Program Manager of the Financial Wellness Center for UTC.
This UTC program is among the few college programs in the country with a full-time position dedicated specifically to Financial Wellness. The Financial Wellness Center offers money management events, workshops, guest lectures and one-on-one financial counseling to students at UTC.
The UTC Financial Wellness Center also assists area high schools with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and helps students and their parents prepare financially for college. The Wellness Center uses Peer Financial Coaches to work with college and high school students in the area of budgeting, paying for college and college readiness.
“Collaborating with other organizations is crucial in providing this service to UTC students and the community,” said Dr. Jeff Rector, Assistant Director for Client Services, Training, and Outreach.
“Studies have shown that spending and savings habits formed between the ages of 18 and 25 years old can determine future financial lifestyles,” said Blake Strickland, TVFCU President and CEO. “So, it only makes sense that Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union would like to offer assistance to UTC and Hamilton County Department of Education, in educating our young people about money management and the wise use of financial services, especially credit cards.”
