We started the day off Sunday at the Wannsee House. In this house, the Final Solution for the pure Aryan race was discussed and decided by top Nazi members at the beginning of WWII.
The beautiful walls hold a dark past. Walking through the house you can see where the conference and the living quarters would be. A feeling of almost anger comes as you sit in the same spot as those that were the masterminds of the killing of thousands of people.
On Monday morning, we walked through a quiet neighborhood with few houses. At the edge of town we arrive at Sachsenhausen Camp. The first feeling you get is a bit confused, the entrance is a newer more modern looking memorial, but you walk behind the center and see the tall walls with barbed wire on the top to stop any prisoner from escaping.
You walk through the only gate from the camp to the outside world, and it hits you! As you’re looking upon 62 placemats of the living quarters, you know thousands died here. It is a feeling that can’t be described.
After the walk around the houses to the killing quarters, it got intense for most students.
We then had a free afternoon to explore the wonders that Berlin has to offer.
