UTC has teamed up with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security to offer a more efficient and faster way to renew or replace a Tennessee driver license or state identification card.
This newly formed partnership was announced by Commissioner Bill Gibbons on Campus at an event on October 23 celebrating the kiosk’s opening at its UTC location on the first floor of the UC.
“We appreciate the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga for the opportunity to provide this service on campus,” Commissioner Bill Gibbons said. “It will be a real convenience for those who attend or teach classes here on campus, and will help us reduce wait times at our Chattanooga area driver services centers.”
Gibbons made the announcement with Lori Bullard, Assistant Commissioner of Driver Services and Dr. Richard Brown, UTC Executive Vice Chancellor.
“UTC is pleased to partner with The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security to provide an innovative and efficient driver’s license and State ID renewal service to over 14,000 university faculty, staff, and students who visit our University on a daily basis.” Executive Vice Chancellor Dr. Richard Brown said. “The convenience and state of the art technology will deliver the highest value to the public we serve.”
The self-service kiosk is a convenient alternative for not only members of the UTC community, but also any Tennessee resident who needs to renew or replace an existing Tennessee driver’s license or self-identification card. The new kiosk has the ability to take photos and use face-recognition to verify existing photos on record. It can also process credit cards and print a 20 day interim license to be used while the new card is mailed to the applicant’s home.
UTC’s kiosk is available Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Parking is located in the parking garage across from the University Center.
