Before their first week of working with patients in clinicals, UTC School of Nursing students are honored with the White Coat Ceremony, a rite of passage in their career of nursing.
“I love this ceremony because the students have been here for a couple of weeks and they’re starting to really get into the excitement of the profession; and I think giving them the white coat really makes it–it’s the icing on the cake for them,” explains Dr. Chris Smith, Director, School of Nursing.
The January 20 event was the first White Coat Ceremony since the passing of School of Nursing founder, Mary Jackson. UTC had the honor of sitting down and chatting with Jackson before she passed–she reflects on the founding of our nursing program here.
