UTC has an enduring commitment to best practices in diversity. As such, we are proud to announce that Dr. Bryan Samuel, UTC Director of Equity and Diversity, has been selected to serve as a member of the National Advisory Council for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE).
The NCORE conference series constitutes the leading and most comprehensive national forum on issues of race and ethnicity in American higher education. The conference focuses on the complex task of creating and sustaining comprehensive institutional change designed to improve racial and ethnic relations on campus and to expand opportunities for educational access and success by culturally diverse, traditionally underrepresented populations.
NCORE is designed to provide a significant forum for discussion, critical dialogue, and exchange of information as institutions search for effective strategies to enhance access, social development, education, positive communication, and cross-cultural understanding in culturally diverse settings. NCORE is housed in the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies under Outreach at the University of Oklahoma.
As a member of the Council, Samuel will help provide recommendations to the University of Oklahoma’s Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies (SWCHRS), the SWCHRS Executive Committee, and the NCORE staff for the planning and programming of the annual NCORE conference. During his three-year term, Samuel will serve on the Chief Diversity Officers and Executive Leadership Committee.
“As the Chief Diversity Officer for the campus, this national recognition will serve as a validation of UTC’s continued demonstrable commitment to diversity. Having myself and other UTC faculty and staff routinely engaged in the national dialogue will support the identification and utilization of national best practices to build and sustain the campus we aspire to be,” said Samuel.
Samuel was chosen from a large group of applicants, based on experience and skills as well as his demonstrated interest in and dedication to diversity.
“Dr. Samuel will provide outstanding leadership and ‘best practice’ guidance for diversity professionals across the country. The selection of Dr. Samuel to the Board of Directors by NCORE leaders is a reflection of his enormous experience, commitment to excellence, and his overwhelming passion to move forward diversity and inclusion goals and strategies on many levels,” said Dr. Richard Brown, Executive Vice Chancellor of Finance & Operations.
