NaKeisha Turk, a former UTC cheerleader who graduated with a degree in political science in 2012, delights in girly pastimes like shopping and manicures. However, there are no manicures — or beds or cellphones, for that matter — in the jungles of Fiji, where Turk was dropped last May, kicking and screaming, via parachute.
Turk was one of ten divas paired with ten survivalists in FOX’s newest reality show, Kicking and Screaming. At the end of the show, the winning pair receives a prize of $500,000. The eight-week series premiered on Thursday, March 9 at 9 PM and will continue to air on Thurdays at 9 PM EST.
“You will definitely see 10 divas who have traded in their lavish lifestyles to be dropped into the jungle. You can expect a lot of laughs as I know that our partner introductions and us getting adjusted to our new living arrangement is hilarious,” said Turk.
Turk is no stranger to physical fitness; she lives in Atlanta and works as a fitness instructor and a cheerleader for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. However, the show brought with it a lot of challenges that put her outside of her comfort zone.
“All my friends and family were shocked or they just busted out laughing. They know that Nakeisha and the outdoors DO NOT mix,” said Turk “The toughest challenge is just surviving. You are hungry 24/7. You have to sleep on the ground. There are bugs everywhere! You are just completely out of your comfort zone. Getting through that and staying positive was very difficult. Most importantly, I realized that I am so much stronger than I thought; I mean, how many people can say they survived the jungle?”
