Ten years ago, the Student Alumni Council (SAC) started a holiday tradition that still holds strong today.
Through SAC’s Angel Tree campaign students, staff, faculty and alumni add a little extra cheer to the Chattanooga community by donating gifts to local kids.
This year, 126 children will unwrap presents donated through Angel Tree. With an average of four presents per child, over 500 gifts were donated this November.
Each year, many UTC student organizations and departments combine efforts to sponsor multiple children through SAC’s Angel Tree, but students are the largest group of individual participants with the campaign.
“Our Angel Tree program is one of the highest-producing gift drives for the community-wide program,” explains Andrea Perry Lyons, associate director of alumni affairs. “We sincerely appreciate everyone who supports the Angel Tree. Buying a gift is a simple gesture but it means so much to these children and their families. This year, we met several former Angel Tree recipients who make it their mission to give back.”
