With support from the Maclellan Foundation, the UTC College of Health, Education, and Professional Studies (CHEPS) has recently begun publishing the Journal of Adolescent and Family Health (JA&FH).
JA&FH publishes a range of articles from the biological and behavioral to the social and applied sciences, which are intended to educate and improve the lives of adolescents and their families. The journal looks to provide an interdisciplinary forum that mixes clinical innovation, practical wisdom, and theory, along with academic rigor and desire for excellence.
This free online open-source journal is searchable and accessible by researchers using popular search engines as well as dedicated library research databases. Staff members from the UTC Lupton Library provide technical support for the online journal, allowing it to be updated continuously as new articles are submitted and accepted for inclusion.
This innovative interdisciplinary work features faculty members from the seven departments of CHEPS, who serve as editors of the journal.
Those contributors include Editor-in-Chief Dr. Michael Sherr (Social Work), and Section Editors Dr. Elizabeth Crawford (Education), Jessica Etheredge (Interior Design), Dr. Susan McDonald (Occupational Therapy), Dr. Jessica Peacock (Health and Human Performance), Dr. Cathy Smith (Physical Therapy), and Dr. Chris Smith (Nursing)
“Our goal is to produce a journal can be of immediate use to practitioners that is a mix of clinical innovation, practice wisdom, and theory, with academic rigor and excellence,” said Sherr. “We want to be consistent with the University’s metropolitan mission, so we strive to publish articles that professionals and the public will find relevant and the academic community finds credible.”
While this is the JA&FH’s sixth volume, it is the first since the successful transition of the journal from the Institute for Youth Development to UTC.
