Dr. Shewanee Howard-Baptiste
Tucson, Arizona, will see an influx of blue and gold this summer when Dr. Shewanee Howard-Baptiste, UTC Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance, attends the Summer Institute in Advanced Health Disparities next month. Sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH), the prestigious program is the part of institute’s initiative to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE-AHD).
The PRIDE-AHD Program is an all-expense paid summer research training opportunity for junior faculty in the biomedical sciences. The primary objective of the program is to provide advanced training to qualified candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical sciences, who are committed to addressing Heart, Lung, Blood and Sleep (HLBS) health disparities through impactful research.
“I’ve very honored and humbled. I hope to represent UTC well and increase the visibility of our University. I’ll definitely have on my blue and gold in Arizona,” she said.
Howard-Baptiste will receive assistance with grant writing, career development, and mentoring. When she returns, she hopes to start research on addressing health disparities in the Chattanooga area.
