Patrick DeGuira, artist, curator, educator, and juror for The UTC Department of Art 2010 Juried Student Exhibition, will present a public lecture on Wednesday, January 20 at 5:30 p.m., in room 356, of the Fine Arts Center.
“This is an excellent opportunity to see a vibrant exhibition of work created by students of the UTC Department of Art and hear a presentation about DeGuira’s own professional path in the world of contemporary art,” said Ruth Grover, Curator of Galleries, Exhibitions, and Collections.
DeGuira will also lead a professionalism session with a question and answer session on Thursday, January 21, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in room 356, UTC Fine Arts Center. Both events are free and open to the public.
DeGuira studied at the New York Studio Program, The New School of Social Research, Parsons in New York City, and attended the Memphis College of Art where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1994. Long active in the Nashville arts scene, DeGuira owns and operates Finn’s Fine Art Services. He has served for five years on the Board of Directors of the Fugitive Projects, Fugitive Center. DeGuira also serves as Visiting Artist at Watkins College of Art in Nashville, Tennessee.
His work has been featured in group exhibitions including “The Fragile Species” (2005), Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville; “On Others” (2005-06) University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee, and the Iron Gate, Austin, Texas; “The Clear Box Project” (2006) Ruby Green, Nashville, Tennessee; “$999” (2008) Honey Space, New York City; “Polymer” (2009) Chattanooga, Tennessee; and “Surface Tension” (2009) AVA Gallery, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Solo exhibitions of Deguira’s work have been mounted at The Cheekwood Museum of Art, Nashville; Zeitgeist Gallery, Nashville; Second Floor Contemporary, Memphis; Frederic Snitzer Gallery, Miami, Florida; and Medicine Factory, Memphis.
