The new leaders of the UTC Student Government have big plans for the organization, starting with emphasizing communication and campus involvement. Shalin Shah, Bradley Bell, and Emily Neutens were recently elected by their peers and will serve for the 2011-2012 school year.
Shalin Shah, a Chattanooga sophomore, will serve as president. Shah called himself “extraordinarily excited” to begin his presidency. He will focus on enhancing communication between the student government association and the student body.
“I want to thank the students for their confidence in me and I look forward to working with them,” he said.
Bradley Bell, a Knoxville junior, was elected vice president. “I want to let students know what’s available on campus. There are a lot of opportunities they can seize,” he said.
Bell is excited about working with the new team. “We’re the most diverse team SGA has probably ever had. Though we’re from different ethnic backgrounds and involved in different campaign organizations, our values line up,” he said.
Emily Neutens, a Knoxville junior, will be treasurer. The communications major has been involved in SGA for three years. “I’ve gotten so much from SGA that I wanted to give something back,” she said.
Neutens hopes to achieve more transparency during her term as treasurer. “I think the treasurer should be able to communicate with students. I want students to know where their tuition money goes and how it affects them,” she said.
